The DGCA (Directorate General Civil Aviation) is a statutory authority working under the Ministry of Civil Aviation that oversees all issues regarding airworthiness and licensing of personnel in India. It is the authority that issues licenses to pilots and has many other important functions to oversee the safe and effective function of air transportation in India. | What is the minimum qualification required for getting admission for Commercial Pilot License? |

Age - Age required for obtaining the CPL is 18 years. Training can be done earlier so that a student is ready for the issue of license when he/she attains 18 years of age. |

Academic Qualification - Person must be 10+2 with physics and mathematics. Only pass grade is required. Students who have done 10+2 with other subjects can even now do Physics and Mathematics from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). Details can be obtained from their website. What are the Medical Tests required to be taken by a student for Pilot training? |

Student must meet medical standards for Class-II medical before starting flying training. This has to be certified by DGCA approved doctors. List of approved doctors is available on the DGCA web site. However the final medical standard required for airline flying is Class I medical. This is certified by Indian Air Force establishment at New Delhi, Bangalore and Jorhat. CLIPAIR can provide necessary assistance to facilitate the process. Wearing of glasses within permissible limits is accepted. |

What is the requirement for Commercial Pilot license by DGCA? |
Ground training- Apart from the eligibility criteria mentioned above, for obtaining an Indian CPL, a student should have cleared the DGCA written papers in the subjects of Air Regulation, Navigation, Meteorology, General and Specific Technical and Radio Telephony (Written and Oral). Clipair strongly recommends that a student should undergo ground training in above mentioned Aviation subjects prior to commencement of Flying training. |
Flying Training- For issue of CPL a student is required to fly 200 hrs, as per the DGCA rule. This training can be done abroad or in India. Considering the time taken by flying schools in India, CLIPAIR recommends that a student should proceed for their flying training aboard. |
What is the procedure to convert my foreign license to corresponding Indian license? |
The students, after duly completing the required flying training, have to appear for DGCA composite papers. |

| What will be the total cost of Pilot training? |
Aviation training is expensive. The entire process including everything till completion of flying stage can cost up to 18-20 lacs spread over a period of approximately one year. Student loans are advanced by many banks. |
Flying training- There are a lot of variables that affect the cost of learning to fly, including the frequency of flight lessons, weather conditions, the kind of aircraft in which you are training and its availability for scheduling, and individual aptitude. A rough estimate would range between $40,000 USD - $45,000 USD, depending on the certificate being sought. (The range includes flying training cost, accommodation and food expense). |
Is there any sort of funding or financial assistance available? |
Yes, banks do give educational loans for funding the commercial pilot’s license course. We suggest that the students should apply to their own banks for bank loan as this will get them competitive rate of interest and good repayment terms. However, Clipair recommends Bank of India. |
Can you guarantee me a job in the airlines once I graduate? |
No flying school can possibly guarantee that by training with them you are guaranteed a place in an airline. However, Clipair students would be interviewed by JETAIRWAYS, subject to availability of vacancies. The selection of the candidates will be carried out strictly on merit. |
